“The race is on!” With that message, the peloton of pioneers broke up into groups to think about what the BEAT Cycling Club pro team should look like in 2018. This theme was reflected in the cycling atmosphere during the Club Meetup at the offices of our development partner Jonge Honden in Utrecht. Pioneers signed the start list upon entry, like true cyclists, and appeared in front of the camera for a short interview beforehand.
As the first item on the agenda, the recap and preview provided the monthly update on the latest developments within BEAT and the project team. Piotr Havik discussed his season preparation, while Theo Bos delivered a special video message. After the club update and presentation of the events calendar, the pioneers were fully up-to-date and ready to brainstorm about the pro team.
What is our vision for the team? In a presentation, Geert Broekhuizen and Bobbie Traksel provided insight into the Pro Continental team that we are planning to launch in 2018, including the race schedule and the necessary budgets and priorities for the coming months. With that context in mind, the pioneers got into the driver’s seat to come up with a range of innovative ideas for the pro team.
How will BEAT become the coolest team in the peloton? How do we bring the team as close as possible to the club? And what types of riders have the BEAT factor and should be contracted? Some of the answers: electric team cars, our own bicycle brand, riders who dare to lose, specializing in team time trials and members reinforcing the staff around races.
Then it was almost time to share all the ideas with each other over drinks. But first came the quiz. In the exciting Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne green-red quiz, the real cycling experts asserted themselves. The Club Meetup was a very inspiring and entertaining evening that left many pioneers itching to contribute a bit more to BEAT Cycling Club!
